Seems EQEmu has a bit of a problem. The newest version of Perl breaks EQEmu. We depend on perl58.lib, which is not found in the newest 5.10 release, obviously. Using this version will prevent quests from working, Cavedude has confirmed that 5.8.5 (PEQ) and 5.8.7 work fine, can't see any reason why 5.8.8 won't work, either. He's updating the installer today, and linking to the 5.8.7 binaries to be safe in it: http://downloads.activestate.com/Act...x86-211909.msi
Anyone who has anything over Perl 5.8.7 , needs to downgrade.

Uninstall reboot install that reboot try again bud you'll get there one way or another!

Yeah, the multitude of versions seem to be a little finicky in regards to compatibility.

I think the version being pushed actually is this looking at some newer threads:

http://downloads.activestate.com/Act...x86-280952.msi

You will have to

a) Uninstall the old version
b) Reboot
c) *recommended in posts* Manually remove c:\perl
d) Install 5.8.8.822
e) Reboot to let changes apply

I've found that version 5.8.9.826 got rid of that message for me.

Part of the problem is that there is no universal standard as to what to use. Some use 5.8 and others 5.10.

The version of perl being used when the binaries are compiled seems to be directly linked to the required version of perl by the end user. I have tested that theory using two different computers and it happens that way every time. Unfortunately, I have no explanation as to why it occurs.

Mixxit brought up a good point that I forgot about: You sometimes have to manually remove the perl directory from the hard drive in order to get the install of the newer version to work.
