From what I understand, if you still have the old files from before, the new Eqemu will see them and let you in, but these files are not legal and banned from even talking about them here, since the only way to get them would be to pass them around.
This is a big reason why Titanium is here; to make everything legal and let anyone who comes in new, and wants to play on EQEMU servers, in a totally legal way.
You really should try to get it, as everyone here has a better defined goal now, and is working towards this expansion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Titanium marketed as being a collection of EQ and 10 expansions, or is Titanium itself another expansion?

You're right, It comes with the original EQ, so it is a "stand-alone" version - needs no patching from SOE.

There is no plan to ever catch live, all effort is going into making the Titanium version better.

Personally I think it would be good to stop at titanium and work towards it getting fully functional. That would be awesome. I think sony should be a good sport and atleast allow the first 3 expansions to be played without a fee. Keep it going for those who want new stuff and let those who want to have fun be able to have their own server.
